            On Tuesday, August 28th, second round of the children's and youth basketball tournament "Valmiera Summer Cup" will begin in Valmiera. From August 28th to 30th, boys who were born in 2004-2007 in four age groups will compete at the Vidzeme Olympic Center and Valmiera Elementary School sports hall. Four Valmiera and 24 teams from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia and Belarus will join the tournament.

            Valmiera Summer Cup basketball tournament this year for the first time takes place in two stages. The first stage took place from 16th to 18th August and included 11 girls' teams from Latvia, Estonia and Belarus. In the first stage of the tournament, the girls who were born in 2006-2008 competed in two groups, the champion titles were awarded  to Estonian team Tiit Soku KK / SK Nord and latvians from Riga 3rd BJSS. The second stage of the tournament will take place at both the Vidzeme Olympic Center and the Valmiera Elementary Sports Hall, where boys will  compete in four age groups. For three days, from August 28th to 30th, 70 games will be played.

            Children's and Youth Basketball Tournament "Valmiera Summer Cup" is a pre-season tournament where young basketball players and coaches can test their progress made during the summer preparation stage in an international atmosphere. The first tournament in these projects was held in Valmiera already in 2015, bringing together 19 teams from seven countries. Interest in tournaments in previous years has been international, and teams from the Baltic, Scandinavia and other European countries are welcomed every year in Valmiera.
